SlowRide
Community Calendar

This event began 05/21/2026 and repeats every week on Thursday forever

I would like to contact the First Officers to inform them about a project I am assisting John Vermette with, First Officer CMC 087 NB North, with getting the word out in Ontario. In 2027, we need help from chapters in your areas. Any CMC members who want to assist in the project are welcome. I can be reached via the CMC National Forum under SlowRide in DM or the 003 Mississauga Face Book page. Let's get together and make it happen.

INTRODUCTION

John Vermette is a hard working, devoted father. Family tragedy has forced him to become more. He now finds himself at a crossroad requiring a decision between 2 paths. Both are noble and will benefit his own son. However, the first will be temporary for his son alone. The second will help his son, provide a legacy and improve the lives of many people well into the future. He has decided to pursue the second, to create a legacy for his son. Giving meaning to his family’s misfortune and a lasting positive contribution to the community.

The Project (Described in John’s own words)

The Project: When John Ryan (son) was only 3 or 4 years old my grandfather William Laviolette from Selwood, New Brunswick asked me (John Vermette) to make sure that his land (50 acres) would go to John Ryan in the future so it went from generation to generation now I have it and John Ryan is sick so, the only thing I can do is put it in Trust for him.

One day I went to Vitality in Campbellton, New Brunswick and Melanie Lantegne. They dispatch social workers in the area. I asked what was needed to improve the quality of Mental Health services in the area. She told me, “So many families are burned out by taking care and looking after their loved ones. We need a place where they can bring their loved ones and be able to relax and rest.”

This is where the idea for the Centre started, it should have:

1.      reception area,

2.      12 rooms,

3.      1 infirmary,

4.      a cafeteria,

5.      a communal den,

6.      an employee room,

7.      12 private cottages,

8.      Therapeutic farm and

9.      outdoor trails.

We are also planning to include more ideas.

I hope that gives you an insight on the project. Any support that can be provided would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Pierre (SlowRide) Cloutier - 3rd Officer CMC 003 Mississauga

This Center will be for : Schizophrenia, Dementia, Down Syndrome, Autism, Bipolar, Depression and all mental illnesses. The idea is for families to Relax in nature in there cottages while there loved ones are taking care of and they can have meals and spend time with them,  We also plan to farm 80% of our food on site with a green house and a large garden enough to feed 36 people year round. In the summer you will be able to watch us pick your supper vegetables. This will be the first introduced to Canada. I was told that the Center alone would be between 1.2 to 1.4 Million that is the reason why I'm doing so many miles with this Rally and asking for the help of so many people.

My Son is the last of our blood line and he has Schizophrenia, there is no one to look after him once I am gone,  I am 59 years old with a heart condition and diabetic,  I have to put everything in thrust for him so that he is taken care of when I'm gone.

Any kind of help would be very much appreciated, sponsors, volunteers, fund raisers, any kind of fund raising ideas, student project's, anything that can help us.

Thank you!

John Vermette
