Obituary of Roger Dale Roberts

ROBERTS, ROGER DALE
May 16, 1948 - January 30, 2021

On his own terms and after a lengthy and well-fought battle with cancer.
Husband and best friend of Rev. Shelley Roberts (retired from St. Andrew's United Church, Lanark and Balderson United).  Beloved father of Jeff (Martine Menard) of Alexandria, ON and Bill (Trish Davey) of Bowmanville, ON.  Step-father of Lara Wright of Newcastle, ON and John Wright (Christine) of Lanark, ON.  Loving grandfather of Kevin, Kate, Kyle, Miranda, Hailey, Sarah, Daniel, Joseph, and Annabelle.  Great-grandfather of Alice.  Older brother to Kevin (Sharon) Okotoks, AB, Sid, Bowmanville ON, Sharon Butler (Charlie) and Pam Derry (John) all of Omemee, ON.  Brother-in-law of Dave Fisher (Linda) of Kelowna, BC and Barb Hunter (Bob) of Victoria, BC.  Will be missed by many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

Roger was born in Ingonish, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and he grew up in the Oshawa area.  Most of his career was spent as a transport trailer driver and, in his semi-retirement, Roger operated his own escort vehicle business for over-size highway loads.  He was an associate member for 48 years of the Royal Canadian Legion and a life time member of the United Church of Canada.  The family wishes to thank Bayshore Home Care and Care Partners for their in-home support for many months last year and CareFor Hospice in Cornwall for their care since December 8.  Also appreciated were all the church and legion friends who kept in touch and delivered gifts of food, flowers, love and support.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a future time.    Funeral arrangements entrusted to Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth, Ontario.   Memorial donations may be made to the Balderson United Church (PO Box 331, Lanark, ON K0G 1K0), to the Lanark Legion Branch 395, to Carefor Hospice, 1507 Second St. West, Cornwall K6J 3L5 cornwallhospice.com  or to the charity of your choice.

Condolences to all Roger's family and friends. I had the opportunity to work with Roger on several occasions and different projects and he was a excellent fellow to work with.  He often talked of being a member of the CMC  and was proud to be so.

RIP Roger :(
